Data: Brownfield site data come from the Brownfield land data set published by the Planning Data Platform licensed under Open Goverment License v3.0.

Notes: We use an optimised version of UK Local Authority District geoJSON boundaries (smaller file size and accuracy limited to ~1.1m) and the brownfield land data set to determine the local authority containing each brownfield site in the data. We check whether each "point" (POINT(long, lat)) is contained by one of the local authority polygons. If it is, we assign this local authority to the site. For places without a given "point", we attempt to find a postcode in the "site-address" column. If a postcode is found, we search this on a postcode centroid to latitude-longitude coordinate lookup table. If all of these options fail, we use the "organisation-entity" column and organisation entity information (e.g. 379) to find the local authority that contains the site. We currently make no correction for potentially incorrect points. For example, we assume that if a point is found to be in a local authority, then that is the correct one. We also assume that the "organsiation-entity" column is correct.
